The discussion on “sex” is often regarded as a taboo in Asian communities. The seemingly lack of sex education at home and schools have prompted the Red Ribbon Centre under the Department of Heath to find a new way to educate the general public, especially the younger generation.

For this award-winning video, we brought this interesting topic to life and made sure to showcase it in a fun, respectable and remarkable manner as we designed the main character and storyline.
Practicing safe sex is indeed an ongoing exercise, just like kungfu practice. As the main character Dick’s journey to the West unfolds, clear and simple steps are explained as to how a condom should be worn correctly to prevent HIV and unplanned pregnancies.
We set the scene using tones of pink with organic lines and forms that are non-intrusive but subtly suggestive as Dick sets on his journey; and cel animation and Chinese calligraphy art style to create a classic and authoritative mode to explain the techniques, as the camera switches to a first persons’ perspective to encourage the audience to learn with him.
Quality and comprehensive sex education has broad and long-term benefits for young people’s physical and mental wellbeing. We worked closely with our client to impose a clear message with humour in the script in both videos in Cantonese and English, so as to make it easy for a broader young audience to understand and remember.
